This page is published by PackQR, so it is not an independent review. The aim is to describe meaningful differences fairly, link to official sources and say openly where another product may be the better fit. Features and prices can change; regional App Store pricing may differ. Separate companion apps are identified as related tools rather than counted as built-in inventory features.
Start with your priority
There is no single best inventory app for every move.
The closest alternatives differ less by whether they can share and more by how sharing works. PackQR 1.8 uses a deliberate Master/Contributor model: the scoped collaboration copy is handed over nearby by QR, while returned additions can come back directly or as an encrypted handoff file sent remotely, with selected-room/box sharing and Sensitive Master boxes excluded. Moving Boxes Organizer is local by default but can place selected non-sensitive boxes into an Apple iCloud/CloudKit Shared Inventory. BoxQR and BoxBuddy emphasise ongoing account-backed household access, BoxLister Cloud Sync keeps two devices synchronised, and Scan Your Boxes keeps core box work available offline with optional cloud Team sharing. Retinelle remains local and report-focused, iFoundIt syncs a personal inventory across signed-in devices, and Sortly provides business-grade multi-user controls.
PackQR 1.8 combines a £1.99 one-time purchase, no required PackQR account, Sensitive Boxes with device authentication and manual re-lock, selective collaboration with nearby setup and encrypted remote return, offline search, on-device AI Pack Scan, multi-item on-device voice entry, optional estimated replacement values, coverage-aware box/project rollups, value-enabled PDF/CSV reports, plain or encrypted manual backups, and a fail-closed local-continuity safeguard. Values are user-entered rather than guessed, and collaboration is still not live sync: the Contributor receives only the chosen lightweight Master context, works independently, then returns additive changes directly or through an encrypted remote handoff for explicit Master review. Households that need continuous shared editing, browser access, more than one Contributor or a long-running cloud inventory may still be better served by another product.

Choose PackQR when two-person collaboration and local privacy matter most
PackQR may suit a person or household that wants to record boxes, print privacy-safe labels, use voice or AI to reduce typing, let one Contributor pack a separate part of the move without a shared PackQR cloud account, and keep a deliberate recovery boundary if the protected local inventory unexpectedly disappears.

The collaboration model is deliberately controlled: one Master hands a lightweight read-only baseline to one nearby Contributor, the Contributor can then work independently offline or elsewhere, and the Master reviews returned additions before import whether they come back directly or as an encrypted remotely shared handoff file. A separate free Move Planner by PackQR app can handle dates, tasks and checklists, but it remains a separate companion rather than a built-in inventory feature.
The compromise is that PackQR is not live sync and does not support several simultaneous Contributors. If continuous cross-device editing, browser access or a larger shared team is the priority, BoxQR, BoxLister Cloud Sync, BoxBuddy, Scan Your Boxes or Sortly may fit better. PackQR is strongest when a two-person move values account-free local privacy, deliberate review and a one-time purchase.
Choose Moving Boxes Organizer when ongoing iCloud family sharing matters most
Moving Boxes Organizer is a strong fit when a family wants one ongoing shared box list without a separate developer-operated account or subscription. Shared Inventory uses the user’s Apple iCloud account, while PackQR takes a deliberate nearby initial handoff with reviewed direct or encrypted remote return.
Its current App Store release is 1.3.2 (21 August 2026). Alongside room and label management, it now clearly supports reviewed multi-item voice entry, voice search/dictation, PDF and CSV inventory export and full local backup/restore; its product material says speech processing happens on-device and recordings are not saved. Sensitive boxes remain local and excluded from Shared Inventory. Public material supports marking items as valuable, but does not currently describe PackQR-style replacement-value each or coverage-aware valuation rollups.
Choose BoxQR when browser scanning and household sharing matter most
BoxQR overlaps PackQR on QR labels, moving-box inventory, photos, search, AI-assisted detection, reports, declared item values and household sharing. Its native iOS app now explicitly advertises full offline support, while its Home Storage Report can include every item, photo and declared value in a PDF. Receipt/warranty attachments, browser/public box pages and Pro read/write permissions make it especially convenient when records should be available online to different household members.
That convenience uses an account-backed service and recurring Pro pricing. PackQR 1.8 covers the common two-person packing case without a PackQR account: the collaboration starts with a nearby handoff, then the encrypted return can be sent remotely, rather than maintaining persistent browser/cloud sharing.
Choose BoxLister when offline simplicity and one-time economics matter most
BoxLister remains one of the closest pricing and two-device alternatives. Pro Offline is a simple one-time offline moving tracker, while Cloud Sync adds continuous two-device synchronisation, backup and family sharing for A$9.99 once.
For people who mainly want typed box lists, search and two devices kept continuously in step, BoxLister Cloud Sync is very strong value. PackQR’s differentiation is on-device AI and multi-item voice, Contributor photos, deliberate replacement values with coverage, value-enabled contents reports, encrypted manual backups and a reviewed nearby-start / remote-return handoff instead of continuous sync.
Choose BoxBuddy when shared packing matters most
BoxBuddy remains stronger for a household that wants several people inside one live shared move. Its Family plan combines real-time inventory sync, invite links and editor/viewer roles with photo tracking, QR labels and voice notes/dictation.
PackQR 1.8 supports a genuine two-person collaboration workflow, but it deliberately stops short of live multi-user editing. People who prefer one-time pricing and local detailed records may favour PackQR; families who want up to five members editing the same move in real time may prefer BoxBuddy.
Choose Scan Your Boxes for broader QR features and optional team sharing
Scan Your Boxes has a mature QR inventory workflow whose core box creation, item entry, scanning and search work offline, with cloud sync/sharing available as an option. It also offers Team plans for up to 15 users, Apple Intelligence smart search/tag suggestions and increasingly strong valuation/reporting. Version 3.21.1 (20 August 2026) is current; version 3.21.0 added a free Statistics screen with total inventory value, redesigned PDF export with totals/photo cards, and improved CSV currency formatting plus a summary row.
It is a strong choice when the inventory should remain available across devices or to a larger team, and its latest valuation/statistics work makes it much closer to PackQR 1.8 on household-value reporting. PackQR differs through local-first storage, explicit valued-item coverage, user-entered replacement-value semantics and Sensitive-box financial privacy.
Choose Retinelle for flexible photo inventories and detailed reports
Retinelle is broader than a moving-box app. Projects, multiple photos, free custom fields (including currency/value fields), local PDF generation, Plus Field Insights and configurable spreadsheet export make it useful for insurance records, collections and work as well as moving.
Its official FAQ says working inventories are local and are not directly shared to another device; sharing is through exported documents. It can be the better fit when flexible custom value fields, photo cataloguing and document design matter more than moving-specific QR boxes, one fixed replacement-value interpretation or two-person collaboration.
Choose iFoundIt for simple “where did I put it?” tracking
iFoundIt keeps the core idea approachable: photograph an item, record where it lives, then search later. Its product site advertises offline use plus account backup/sync on supported devices; the current Apple listing is iPhone-only, while the site also offers an Android APK and says Play availability is still upcoming. Its current App Store privacy disclosure also says some identifiers or usage data may be used for tracking and that some account/content data may be linked to identity, so biometric app locking should not be read as meaning all data handling is purely local.
It is a sensible general home-inventory choice when printable moving-box QR labels, reviewed Master/Contributor return and moving-specific manifests are not priorities.
Choose Sortly when the inventory is really a business system
Sortly is the most operationally capable inventory platform in this group. It offers QR/barcode scanning and label generation, photos, custom fields, offline mobile access, real-time sync, configurable user roles and extensive reports; its Inventory Summary Reports can show total quantity and value.
For an ordinary household move, that breadth and business pricing can be unnecessary. For a business relocation, equipment inventory or long-running multi-user stock system, it is much closer to the intended job than PackQR.
