The app does not require a PackQR account or hosted PackQR inventory database. Sensitive content can be locked locally, collaboration can share only selected rooms or boxes, the initial handoff is direct between nearby devices, and returned additions can later be sent back as an encrypted PackQR handoff file using a sharing service chosen by the user.
PackQR 1.8 keeps values local and extends Sensitive-box protection to financial metadata.

Cookies and analytics
This static website does not currently set advertising cookies or use third-party analytics scripts. PackQR does not sell website visitor data.
Hosting and security logs
The website hosting provider may create standard server logs when pages or files are requested. These can include an IP address, browser information, requested address, time and basic security information. Such logs are used by the hosting provider and site operator for delivery, reliability, abuse prevention and troubleshooting.
Emails and support enquiries
When you email PackQR, the message, contact details and any information you choose to include are received through the email provider. Correspondence may be retained for as long as reasonably needed to answer the enquiry, understand recurring issues, maintain a support record and meet legal obligations. Avoid sending private household contents unless they are necessary and you are comfortable sharing them.
Downloads
The website offers PNG and ZIP downloads. PackQR does not require an account or email address to download these files. Your browser and hosting provider may still record the ordinary request in technical logs.

Articles may refer to external websites or services. Those organisations control their own data practices. Review their privacy information before submitting personal information or creating an account.
Local-first app storage
PackQR stores boxes, items, notes, photos and optional estimated replacement values locally on the user’s iPhone or iPad. The core workflow does not require a PackQR account, hosted PackQR box database or automatic cross-device sync.
Estimated replacement values in PackQR 1.8
Estimated replacement values are optional local inventory metadata. PackQR does not upload entered values to a PackQR-operated pricing, appraisal or inventory service, and production diagnostics should not log item values, box subtotals, project totals or report contents.
Values follow the existing Sensitive-box state. When a Sensitive box is locked, its item values and box subtotal are concealed with names, notes and photos. Manual re-lock removes them immediately from Item Detail, Review values, rollups and previews. Visible project totals do not expose or allow deduction of the value hidden inside locked Sensitive boxes.
Standard reports exclude Sensitive contents and values by default. If a Sensitive-inclusive report option is used, it requires a deliberate fresh device-owner authentication immediately before file creation; exported files then sit outside PackQR’s Sensitive-box protection and should be handled accordingly.
Backups preserve values and the project valuation currency under the same plain/encrypted backup choices and portable-file warnings as other private inventory data. Existing Master values are omitted from collaboration baselines; Contributor-created item values may return as additive encrypted metadata without exposing Master values.
Selective collaboration: nearby setup, encrypted return
Collaboration is optional and user-initiated. One Master device can create a short-lived QR invitation for one Contributor. Before the QR is generated, the Master chooses Entire project, Selected rooms or Selected boxes.
The QR contains pairing/session information and non-sensitive display metadata; it does not contain the household inventory payload. After a valid scan, the permitted baseline moves directly between the nearby PackQR devices. A returned contribution can later move directly when the devices are nearby or be exported as an encrypted PackQR handoff file and sent through a sharing service chosen by the user, such as email. PackQR does not route or store the inventory through a PackQR-operated cloud database or relay. When a user chooses email, Messages, cloud storage or another external sharing service, that provider transports the encrypted file and may process normal account, addressing, attachment and delivery metadata under its own terms and privacy policy.
The initial baseline contains only active Master rooms, boxes and item names/quantities inside the chosen scope. Master photos/media, notes, deleted history and Master Sensitive boxes are excluded. Out-of-scope inventory is not hidden on the Contributor device—it was never transferred.
The Contributor can work offline after joining and may continue packing in another location. Returned additions are reviewed on the Master before import whether they arrive through a nearby direct return or an encrypted handoff file sent remotely. After a successful import, Continue packing together creates a fresh session and baseline rather than reopening the delivered batch or establishing live sync.
App Lock and Sensitive Boxes
Standard contents-list CSV/PDF exports keep structural box context but redact a Sensitive box and omit protected item rows. Master Sensitive boxes are excluded from collaboration sharing in every scope.
The Home-screen Sensitive boxes switch lets the owner re-lock all Sensitive content immediately without locking the rest of PackQR. Turning the switch back off requires device authentication. Removing the Sensitive flag from an existing box also requires a fresh authentication event.
With App Lock off, returning to PackQR does not automatically request authentication just because Sensitive content was previously visible. Ordinary inventory becomes usable immediately while Sensitive boxes remain locked. Backgrounding/inactive revokes temporary Sensitive access and protects the app-switcher snapshot.
PackQR 1.8 separates whole-app access from box-level privacy. Optional App Lock can gate entry to PackQR using iOS device-owner authentication. A box marked Sensitive can conceal its custom name, item names/quantities, notes and photos until Face ID, Touch ID or device passcode authentication succeeds.
Local inventory continuity and recovery in PackQR 1.8
PackQR 1.8 adds a fail-closed safeguard for an unexpectedly missing protected local inventory. After healthy launches, PackQR can retain a small privacy-safe continuity record in its on-device shared app container. This record contains the app version/build, aggregate record counts and a cryptographic digest derived from record identifiers; it does not contain project names, box names, item names, notes, photographs, values or backup contents.
If PackQR later finds evidence that the device previously had an inventory but the protected private store is unexpectedly empty or missing, it stops before creating a replacement inventory. The recovery screen shows last-known aggregate counts, offers a non-destructive Check again action and requires an explicit confirmation before starting fresh. PackQR does not automatically delete backup files or resurrect an older shared-store copy.
This continuity metadata is used only to detect an unexplained local-store disappearance and support safer recovery. It remains on the device and is not sent to a PackQR server.
Manual backups
PackQR creates backup files only when the user chooses to export them. Backups are portable copies and may contain Sensitive contents, notes, photographs, estimated replacement values, project currency, labels and metadata, so they should be stored carefully. A compatible plain format remains available; an optional encrypted format can protect the exported package with a user-supplied backup code. Encryption and decryption happen locally using Apple platform cryptography. PackQR cannot recover a forgotten code.
Optional Move Planner connection
Move Planner by PackQR is available free on the App Store. PackQR includes optional on-device integration with the separate app. The feature is disabled by default. PackQR can check whether Move Planner is detected on the device; detection does not enable sharing. When sharing is enabled, PackQR prepares a limited aggregate packing summary in an Apple App Group on the same device. The summary may include box totals, unpacking totals, Open First totals, room identifiers and names, aggregate room counts, the latest successful backup date and the time the summary was updated.
Move Planner must be installed to read the summary. PackQR does not transmit the summary to PackQR servers or third parties.
Item names, item details, notes, photographs, QR information, searches and backup contents are never included in the shared summary. Disabling sharing removes the summary from the shared on-device container.
On-device recognition and optional learning
PackQR includes AI Pack Scan, an optional feature that can suggest item names and quantities from a photograph. The recognition workflow is designed to run locally using Apple Vision. PackQR does not send the item photograph, suggested label, feature-print comparison or correction to a PackQR server or hosted large-AI recognition model.
The feature does not require an active internet connection and does not depend on an ongoing subscription to an external large-model API. Recognition is not expected to identify every item correctly. Ambient lighting, glare, shadows, camera angle, distance, background, obstruction and groups of unrelated objects can all affect results.
When optional learning is enabled, PackQR can store compact visual representations from items the user deliberately corrects or teaches. These examples remain on the device and are linked to their source item and photograph. They can be removed through the learning controls and are removed when their linked source is deleted. Similar suggestions may improve, but no learned result is guaranteed.
On-device voice input
PackQR includes optional voice input for adding new box contents. The production workflow is designed to start only when Apple reports that on-device speech recognition is supported for the selected voice locale. PackQR does not deliberately fall back to network speech recognition when on-device support is unavailable.
Microphone audio is used only for the active recognition request. PackQR does not create or retain an audio recording, attach audio to an item or box, include audio in a backup, or send microphone audio to a PackQR server. Raw transcript text is kept only in memory while the temporary voice or Pack Batch draft is active. Once confirmed, PackQR stores the resulting inventory fields needed by the app rather than the raw transcript.
The normal production release exposes English (UK) and English (US) voice configurations. App-interface localisation is separate from voice-locale availability.
QR labels
PackQR labels show moving-day information such as box number, destination room, handling flags and an opaque QR code. They do not print readable box contents, item names, notes or photographs on the label.
